How to Keep a Motorcycle Showroom’s Accounts
A motorcycle showroom handles high-value units, many of them sold on installments. Every bike has its own chassis and engine number, and every one must be traced from the dealer’s invoice to the customer who rides it away.

1. Record every bike by chassis and engine number
When bikes arrive, record make, model, colour, chassis number and engine number for each one. Two bikes of the same model are still two different units — the numbers are how you find them later.
2. Put the numbers on the sale
The invoice should carry the chassis, engine and, once issued, the registration number. When a customer returns with a claim or the bank asks about a unit, one search finds the sale.
3. Keep cash and installment sales side by side
- Cash sale: full price, the bike leaves, the record is complete
- Installment sale: advance, schedule, guarantor and recovery route
- Both reduce the same stock and appear in the same sales reports
4. Track stock in each showroom
If you have more than one showroom or a godown, keep stock by location and record every transfer. At any moment you should know which bike is where.
